This Time of the Year…

As we walked out to go to class today the coolness of the morning surprised me. I’m already wearing jackets, lighting pumpkin candles, and noticing every red leaf. This is my favorite season – I love it. I’m soaking it up since I don’t know how many more falls I will be able to experience.
When I first moved to Arizona and then California I noticed depression sneaking up on me every year about this time. Finally, I realized I was missing fall: the crispness in the air, the changing colors around me, lighting fires at night, and snuggling on the couch wearing a sweatshirt, drinking hot apple cider.
Knowing this about myself is important when planning to live overseas and possibly (most likely) in a place where I will once again face the grief of watching this time come and go with no change in the world around me. We’ve been told to take things with us that will help at certain times of the year. (For some people that could be Christmas, Easter, Spring, etc.) So somehow I’m going to take my candles and pictures with me. Last year I bought fake fall leaves from Michaels that I just might lay out all over my yard there……probably not the best way to make friends with your neighbors….. They’ll think I’m crazy enough already without me giving them more evidence to work with.
Happy Fall-ing.

It is my favorite time of the year, too! Especially October 2!!!!!
I must say that I enjoy watching Dana get into the season change. It is another contributor to the fondness of my heart. The cool air also makes her snuggle closer!!!!
