Back to the Beginning…

So…I am usually reading both an Old Testament and New Testament book in my quiet times, for variety I guess.  I’m currently doing a Beth Moore Bible study on Daniel and just finished reading 1 Peter.  When I paused to consider my next book, I got the idea to begin at Genesis and read straight through the Bible while continuing my in depth study on Daniel.  Isn’t it strange how it feels to be reading about creation and the fall of man?  When I read parts of the Bible I’m extremely familiar with, I tend to want to speed read it so this time I intentionally slowed myself down.  Wow!  What a difference!  I’ve seen so many things in there that are afresh to me as I’m in my current situation.  How many books could be read over and over again bringing something new each time?  How many books could be as old as the Bible and still be relevant to this modern age?  There are times that I want to read and study until I just get to the bottom of it all and I’m always reminded that I could read the Bible every day for 100 years and glean something new each time I pick it up.  How fortunate we are to hear from God Himself in His Word.  How evident it is that His Word is living, active, and powerful.  Being in the midst of training I’ve realized that it’s very easy to begin focusing on the products we’ll be able to produce, the skills we need to learn, and what steps we need to take in preparation to go…..instead of the people we’re going to reach.  The people in the darkness without the opportunity to hear God’s Word motivated me to begin this journey and now as I’m sitting here meditating on what I’ve learned from Scripture this weekend, they motivate me to continue pressing on.  I want others to have the same opportunities I’ve been blessed with.

Please join me in praying for the people we’ll be sent to.
