Petty Pet Peeve

Okay, I’m going to rant for a moment about something that really has no impact on me but I just find it annoying.

Many of the books I read have typos.  The published books that I have paid full price for.  What do these books have in common?  They’re Christian fiction.  I like the content but in all my reading years, never have I found typos in books before I became acquainted with Christian fiction.  You’d think these books would be just thrown together and sold at a discount.  But oh no!  They are no cheaper or less put together than secular, mainstream books.

What’s the issue here?  I realize authors will make typos.  That’s what editors are for.  And shouldn’t they be the ones not letting them get to the printing press with typos?  I don’t really know the whole process of it but man it is irritating.

The last book I read had 2 obvious typos.  The book I just started has a typo in the first chapter so that’s already put me off a bit.  Hopefully that’s the only one but I won’t be shocked if there are more.

(And please don’t point out any typos you’ve seen here.  This isn’t a published novel.  It’s a blog.  :) )

Same here – have only found typos in Christian fiction. You know, this week has been so crazy that last night I totally forgot that I wanted to go meet Nicholas Sparks at Barnes/Nobles, and get his autograph on his new book. I remembered about 9pm and he was there at 6….

Ha ha ha ha… you make me laugh. You are sooo right – how irritating is a typo? I keep editing and re-publishing my blog entries because I catch typos days later and can’t stand to see them there! Oh well… :)
Hope you are doing well. Which fiction authors do you like? I enjoy Dekker quite a bit.

    Hi Rachel!

My husband likes Dekker too. I think he may be too…suspensful for me… I usually read Francine Rivers, Angela Hunt, and Rene Gutteridge. I can’t say that I’ve seen any typos in Francine Rivers’ stuff. I’m not sure about the Angela Hunt novels but the last book I finished with the 2 typos was Rene Gutteridge. And I’ve read a lot of other Christian authors – but can’t remember most names off-hand… :)

I heard from an author that caught her book as it was going to stores with a huge typo. She had opened the first box that was sent to her house and found it. Turned out that the wrong file was sent to the printer! Sometimes it’s just a freak thing like that.

You can bet I will freak out for years if my book gets published and has typos!
