It’s an Addiction
I’m addicted! I can’t believe it! I asked a friend today, “I crave sweets after every meal (I didn’t mention that I crave them between meals too) and fruit doesn’t cut it. Any suggestions on how to get rid of these cravings?” She said, “It’s an addiction.”
An addiction!?
Well I had never considered that.
But looking at it now, it is! Okay. I kicked the caffeine habit after years on it. I can do this too!!
I found an article online and basically I’ll have to just CUT IT OUT. Get rid of the condiments with sugar, the sugar itself, and all the white stuff. Of course there is no brown rice or red potatoes here that I know of to replace these. But. The potatoes aren’t russet. Under the dirt I think they’re kind of red. Wonder if that’s okay. They don’t seem to make me crave sugar (which white bread and rice do interestingly enough). And I think we may be able to get brown rice in Dar so that’ll work. Ooo, it didn’t mention pasta though. Yikes. This is a big lifestyle switch especially when I can’t get the healthy replacements here that I need! I’ll have to research this problem… Surely I can make wheat pasta or something.
Anyway…………………..
I’m going to have to get used to eating fruit for my sweets. Fruit. Plain old fruit. I love fruit. I do. I love it better in pies and ice cream. I love it better covered in sugar and sometimes cinnamon. Yes. I love it. But compared to M&M’s? Well. Come on!
I guess the kicker is that over the weekend I had a bad bout of tummy flu. After a day of not being able to eat much at all and, of course, going without my daily chocolate, I dreamed about chocolate. Dreamed about it!! I dreamed someone had chocolates and they gave me one and I ate it sloooooooooooowly savoring every bite. Good grief!!
So I’ve got to get off this! And I have a game plan in place! Can you say gobble gobble? ‘Cause we’re going cold turkey on this one! Watch out oatmeal. Here comes the salt. *pucker*
Now. Don’t fear M&M’s senders! I’ll still have some. After my withdrawal symptoms go away and they become, instead of sustenance, a treat. As they should be really, right? Let’s just hope I’m off the sugar by Thanksgiving because this girl plans to make a pumpkin pie! Maybe even with whipped cream on top. Mmmmmm………

Do you have pumpkins there? That’s a good “sweet” that’s also healthy for you! Check out Pioneer Woman’s website to see how to cook a pumpkin!
