Christmas Wish
The other day one of our partners emailed me asking if I could have anything for Christmas (outside of friends and cold weather) what would it be? This was such a fun question!
First I had to get rid of my thoughts of the intangibles and any unrealistic ideas. The question, as it was presented, was sort of like the childhood question of, “If you had 3 wishes, what would you wish for?” So it set my imagination going. I had to reel it back in a bit.
Once I did that, my first thought was – a puppy! A Boxer puppy! For inside the house! Then my next thought was – eeks – that’s a lot of work. Scratch that.
My second thought, and the idea I stuck with, was Christmas decorations. A tree, lights, ornaments, the works! That is also a bit unrealistic actually but that’s what I came up with. We brought a few things with us but not a lot and the twinkle lights we brought with us broke in the last move. We have one set that has broken bulbs stuck into it to make it come on. It’s quite dangerous though with those sharp edges. We use this strand for lighting when the power is out. We plug them into the generator then string them up high away from little hands.
I know it gets to be overkill in the States with how much (and how early) you start seeing and hearing the evidences of Christmas but not having any sight/sound of it here just might be the cure for frustration with the abundance there.
So that would be my somewhat realistic, tangible Christmas wish I think. I can’t even imagine really decorating our house for Christmas. What if we had lights to decorate the outside even. Boy we’d be a sight! I’m afraid we’d get taken for a nightclub (with a really bad location).
Oh and if you’re curious what some of my unrealistic wishes were they would be things like a trip back to the States, people to visit us here, a trip around the world, a library full of books, a pedicure, a haircut, a day at a spa… Excuse me while I keep dreaming…
