In Swahili that would be:

Aksante Sana

Aksante is ‘thank you’ and sana is ‘very much’.  I learned this a couple days ago but didn’t put it on the blog.  I can’t quite hang onto this one for some reason so I hope putting it on here will help me remember it somehow……  :)

Yes and No

I realized today to know yes and no in Swahili will be important so I looked them up.  Here goes…

Ndio = Yes

Hapana = No

Do you remember the previous Swahili words/phrases?

Ninakupenda, Hakuna Matata, Jambo, Hujambo, Sijambo, Bwana Asifiwe, Simba…

My new Swahili words

Bwana Asifiwe means Praise the Lord!  (The i’s are pronounced as e’s.  The a’s are like the a in palm.  The e is like the a in bay.)

Ninakupenda means I love you.  Jonathan and I have begun using this to each other.  :)   (The vowel sounds follow the rules above and the u sounds like the oo in boot.)

I also learned a little normal greeting conversation.  I told you earlier that jambo means “hi”.  I saw this exchange online.

Hujambo?  (How are you?)    Response: Sijambo! (I am fine.)

My favorite phrase that you’ll recognize is:

Hakuna Matata which means No worries.

Have a wonderful Saturday!  :)

No, not me and Jonathan.  Me and YOU.  Don’t you want to learn Swahili?  It’s fun!  :)

Jambo = Hello  (Easy enough, right?  The a sounds like the a in almond or palm and the rest sounds just like it looks.)

Here’s one you already know and don’t even know it……..until now.

Simba = Lion   (Now you know how they came up with that.)

I just want to get a feel for the language before I go so my first days there aren’t overly stressful and so language school isn’t as hard – that’s what I’m thinking anyway.  So, I hope you have fun learning a little Swahili with me!

Speaking of stress…..or hard labor…..or whatever you want to call it.  I found this picture today online of some ladies in Zaire.  I have always respected mothers.  I really, really respect her!!  She’s a good mommy too – that baby is sleeping!  (And if all that wasn’t enough….notice she’s also barefoot!)
